FORTUNE: Facebook Employees Are A Bunch Of Whiners (FB)

By: Spencer Platt/Getty Images

Did it have to happen?

?

Adam Lashinsky, a senior editor-at-large at Fortune, just laid into Facebook management and employees.

Their arguments for why the company had to go public don't make sense, he writes.

Early in its life as a private company, because of its unexpectedly fast growth, Facebook faced an SEC rule that would have required it to start disclosing its financials as if it were a public company.

But Lashinsky points out that Facebook wasn't required to go public?it just figured it might as well, since it would have had to start filing quarterly and annual reports and complying with other public-company rules.

But Lashinsky gets really savage when he accuses Facebook employees of "whining" about wanting to cash out the equity they receive as compensation:

In Silicon Valley it is not enough for employees to be well paid for the fruits of their labor. If the "risk" they take by making the "investment" of their time doesn't pay off, they leave. That's what passes for loyalty in the technology industry. Employees say (read: whine, rationalize) that they need to "diversify" their investments, but that's poppycock. Facebook easily could have found a way to cash out its employees. Asset manager Pimco recently worked out a deal with SecondMarket to hold regular private auctions for company stock. But such "shadow equity" schemes are by definition slow and gradual. They certainly allow for diversification. Tech-industry workers want their wealth, and they want it now dammit.

We think that's more than a bit unfair?and also completely unrealistic. It assumes that Facebook operates in a vacuum. It doesn't. It's in the middle of one of the most fiercely competitive markets for talent in the world.

Facebook recruited a lot of its key employees from public companies like Google and Microsoft, which pay their employees in both cash and stock. Those stocks are publicly traded and liquid.

It would have been far harder for Facebook to recruit and retain those employees if it didn't have a clear path to Facebook shares becoming a liquid, publicly traded security.

Also, it seems a little off for someone who works for a publication called Fortune to take an issue with people who want to take risks that might make them wealthy.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark legal feud finally ends in settlement ...

Robot 6

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark

A settlement has been reached between fired director Julie Taymor and the producers of the $75 million Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, bringing to an end the nearly year-old legal dispute.

The Tony Award-winning director of The Lion King, Taymor was fired from the much-delayed Spider-Man in March 2011 following her resistance to making any major changes in the wake of a series of blistering reviews. A new creative team was brought in to overhaul Spider-Man ? many of Taymor?s signature elements were stripped in the process ? transforming it into one of the most successful, if also most expensive, productions on Broadway.

Taymor, who also co-wrote the original show, responded in November 2011 by filing a breach of contract lawsuit against lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris, alleging they violated her copyrights and deprived her of future royalties. The producers counter-sued in January, insisting Taymor ?could not and would not do the jobs that she was contracted to do,? and therefore didn?t deserve additional royalties.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a federal judge in New York announced today that the parties had reached a settlement. The terms were not disclosed.

In January, the producers settled a grievance filed on Taymor?s behalf by her union, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and agreed to pay her $9,750 a week in royalties in accordance with her contract as director.

Following Taymor?s firing, Spider-Man shut down for three weeks to undergo an overhaul at the hands of new director Philip William McKinley and writers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and?Glen Berger. When the musical returned in mid-May for previews, it was described as ?virtually unrecognizable? from the show savaged by critics in February.

The show, which costs about $1.2 million a week to produce, grossed almost $1.4 million last week.

Apple brings Geniuses online in four countries, lets us ask questions before we buy

Apple brings Geniuses online, lets us ask questions before we buy

Apple's latest tweak to its online store has now included a real-life genius that you can chat to if you're undecided about buying your next iPhone or iPad. If you're based in the UK, Germany, Spain or Brazil, you can surf to either product page, and an "Ask Now" button in the top right corner will offer you a choice of a phone-chat, instant messaging or a guided tour. The staffers can even help set up your newest handset once you've purchased it -- or just let you chat to someone if you're feeling lonely. If we have a worry, it's that this might be one of John Browett's schemes to cut costs, but let's hope he isn't dreaming of a future where Cupertino's personal touch is entirely replaced with an IM chat to someone in a call center.

Toshiba unveils U925t Ultrabook with slide-out touchscreen, keeps the price a secret for now

DNP EMBARGO Toshiba unveils U925t Ultrabook with slideout touchscreen, keeps the price a secret for now

If Computex was a coming out party for Windows 8 Ultrabooks, Toshiba was one of the wallflowers: though the company teased some concept devices, it only let journalists photograph them from certain angles, and with their screens turned off. Now, though, we're closing the summer with yet another tradeshow, and Toshiba is using the occasion to demo its wares in more detail. The company just announced the Satellite U925t, that Windows 8 slider we showed you earlier in the summer. No word on price, except that it's expected to be "slightly north" of the Satellite U845W, which starts at $1,000. We do know that it will ship on October 26th, the day Win 8 formally launches.

In the meantime, Toshiba hasn't left any specs to the imagination. What we have here is a 12.5-inch Ultrabook with a slide-out, Gorilla Glass touchscreen. Pushing the screen up reveals a built-in keyboard, and we were pleasantly surprised in our hands-on to find that it's actually quite spacious. (With this form factor, the propped up display usually cuts into the usable keyboard space.) The keys are also backlit, and have the same feel as what you'll find on Toshiba's U845 and U845W Ultrabooks. That is to say they're shallow, and very, very quiet. The whole package weighs "just over three pounds" and measures about 0.8 inches thick, making it easy enough to stuff in a carry-on.

When you push up the display you'll also find another surprise: an autofocusing 3-megapixel camera on the back side. For good measure, there's also a lower-res shooter up front. On the inside, it packs a Core i5 processor, Intel HD 4000 graphics and a 128GB SSD. Like many other Ultrabooks, it also has Intel's Wireless Display tech on board, though you'll of course have to buy the requisite set-top box separately. Taking a tour around the device, you'll find a mix of tablet- and laptop-style trappings: two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, vents, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a volume rocker and a button for turning off screen auto-rotation.

Software-wise, Toshiba is bundling Desktop Assist, a utility designed to give Windows 8 newbies quick access to files, programs and the like. You'll also see Live Tiles for things like Toshiba Central (a support hub), Book Place and Toshiba App Place. That's all she wrote for now, but expect us to follow up closer to October 26th with a more specific price. Until then, we've got hands-on photos below, along with a short walk-through video.

Hurricane Isaac begins putting New Orleans to the test

NEW ORLEANS?

Hurricane Isaac struck the Gulf Coast on Tuesday evening hours before the seventh anniversary of catastrophic Katrina, packing 80-mph winds as the outer bands of hurricane-force winds and storm surge battered New Orleans.

Landfall came at 6:45 p.m. in Plaquemines Parish, La., southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River, the National Hurricane Center said. By 7 p.m. in downtown New Orleans, wind was bending trees like rubbery posts, rain was pelting down and the water of Lake Pontchartrain churned white-capped waves ashore.

"Isaac is with us in a very significant way," Mayor Mitch Landrieu told reporters Tuesday night as he provided the first details of flooded roads, downed trees, power outages and flying debris in the city. At least 150,000 homes and businesses were without power, officials said.

PHOTOS: Hurricane Isaac

Isaac, a Category 1 storm expected to linger over the Gulf Coast and inland areas for up to two days, will test the multibillion-dollar effort to improve and fortify a New Orleans flood-control system that failed spectacularly in 2005.

After residents fled low-lying areas under mandatory evacuation orders, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers expressed confidence Tuesday that its revamped network of levees, floodgates, floodwalls and pumping stations would hold against a sluggish but massive storm likely to deliver heavy rain and widespread flooding.

"We're in a hunker-down phase now because the storm could sit over us for a while with a lot of wind and a lot of rain," Landrieu said. "If you've stayed, you should be executing your plan, with the food, water and all the things you need if you have to stay home a few days."

INTERACTIVE: Track the path of Isaac

With New Orleans essentially shut down, residents faced a siege of sorts, with the threat of tornadoes and extended power outages in a city that constantly battles high water. The situation was just as tense along the Mississippi and Alabama coasts, which faced the same dire predictions as New Orleans: storm surges of 6 to 12 feet and rainfall totals of up to 20 inches in some areas.

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued in Mississippi's three coastal counties, where authorities opened shelters and imposed curfews from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

In New Orleans, officials said search-and-rescue teams were gearing up to patrol when the wind subsided. No deaths or injuries had been reported by late Tuesday. Electricity crews said they would have to wait until the wind died to 30 mph before making repairs.

At 10 p.m., Isaac's eye was 75 miles south-southeast of New Orleans and creeping northwest at 8 mph. The slow pace means the 350-mile-wide storm will probably settle in place after landfall, lashing at least three states with wind and rain, the National Hurricane Center said. The center described "a dangerous storm surge along the northern Gulf Coast."

Much of the Mississippi Valley and the Southeastern U.S. also face days of dismal, soaking weather.

"It's going to take till the weekend before this gets out of the Southeastern states," Rick Knabb, director of the hurricane center, told reporters in a conference call.

Isaac's effect was felt even before landfall: Oil platforms, refineries and petrochemical complexes had shut down. The New Orleans airport was closed, bus and Amtrak service was suspended, and the lower Mississippi River was closed to vessels.

Memories of Katrina remain raw seven years after the Category 3 hurricane battered the city and the Gulf Coast with 125-mph winds and a 28-foot storm surge, inflicting billions of dollars in damage and killing more than 1,800 people, mostly in Louisiana. Few people spoke of Isaac on Tuesday without first mentioning Katrina.

New Orleans City Council President Stacy Head praised the coordination she saw among local, state and federal agencies, which she said was lacking before Katrina.

"This is what government was supposed to do years ago and didn't," Head said earlier in the day. "We are as ready as we possibly can be."

Filmmaker John LaTier came to New Orleans from Sacramento two weeks after Katrina to help with recovery efforts and never left. He spoke Tuesday of a recurrent flooding threat that never seems to subside.

"We're already underwater," he said as he stood on one of the city's levees. "It's a matter of basic math. It doesn't matter how much wind we have ? it's the water."

Home Improvement Made Easy. Helpful Tips And Tricks!

So, you have decided to improve your home. That?s a fantastic choice! It is lots of work to get your home properly completed. Are you aware of what you have to know in order to do it the right way? If not, you need to read the following pieces of advice.

Whenever you consider re-staining your deck, you have many different types of stains to utilize. Some are clear, some are oil-based, and yet others are semi-transparent and solid-colored. Choosing the right one, and carefully considering the pros and cons of each is important.

If you can afford it, get wood flooring rather than laminate. Although laminate looks like the real thing, you can refinish it. In 10-20 years, you will find that your floors need to be replaced and cannot be refinished.

Pass on contractors that require large upfront payments before they begin working. An expected down payment will be around $2,500, plus 10 percent of the overall budget when the contractor begins. Don?t overpay!

Any decent home improvement project will include laying brick and purchasing as many as necessary beforehand would make things flow much quicker. When doing repairs, you?ll be able to easily match the preexisting bricks because you have more of the same kind. Brick styles are constantly changing. Keeping a small supply of surplus bricks, of the identical style as the ones originally used, will make it much easier to match for future projects.

When doing home improvements, try using granite tiles instead of granite slabs. A slab could cost you well over five thousand dollars. You can do tiles for around 300 dollars. You will get that nice granite look without having to break the bank to do so.

Natural materials are extremely flexible and great for the interior of the home when your budget will allow such purchases. Real building supplies like wood and stone are much better than using synthetic ones. They are much more attractive and durable to use. Natural materials might be the cheaper option because you won?t have to keep replacing them.

Take care of your septic tank. You can simply use chemicals that don?t overflow and accelerate decomposition. It is important to know exactly where your septic tank is located before beginning any home improvement project. Get a home plan if you need it so you can avoid damaging it accidentally.

If you can?t stand painting and hate paneling, give wallpaper a try. It allows you to boost the look of your whole house. When choosing wallpaper to use, make sure you don?t choose one that will be especially difficult to remove. You may find that you don?t like the wallpaper once it is up.

Be aware of the weather. If you have constant blustery or rainy days, having an outdoor patio or backyard barbecue may not be such a sound investment. It may help to add covering or wind-breaking materials to a patio, but if you don?t want to get those extra items, you should probably skip these improvements.

You should have a better idea of what you need to do to improve your house or apartment after reading this article. How excellent! You can refer to the information again and again to make every project you do a success.

I was an environmental enthusiast for many years. I am specifically excited about precisely how energy saving light bulbs may play a role to bettering the ecosystem. The smallest carbon impact can be accomplished simply by using LED bulbs and several individuals are right now changing halogen bulbs for LED MR16 and LED GU10 lamps.

Balkans heat wave fuels forest fires in Bosnia

BANJA LUKA, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) ? Authorities on Tuesday declared a state of emergency around a town in Bosnia's northeast and a tourist area was evacuated in the country's south as a heat wave fuelled wildfires across the Balkans and left people suffering heat exhaustion.

Bratunac Mayor Nedeljko Mladjenovic declared the emergency as he said wildfires from several directions were threatening his town. Around 50 residents are helping firefighters and forest rangers fight a blaze creeping towards the suburb of Slapasnica, and the town's civil protection agency has asked for help from the army and residents.

In the country's south, firefighters are battling four blazes around the town of Konjic and townsfolk and tourists have begun evacuating houses near Boracko Lake as the extreme heat and strong winds have hindered the extinguishing of approaching blazes.

Many tourists staying at the lake are Bosnians who live in Germany, returning home for the holidays. Zorica Muskovic arrived last week from Munich.

"This is really not pleasant at all, I am scared. I want to leave as soon as possible," she told the AP.

Aida Gakic from the Bosnian capital Sarajevo, who earlier evacuated two of her children from the resort, said she and her husband were unsure of the local fire brigade's capabilities, so decided to stay put and protect their property.

"We are terrified of the fire and rocks falling down from the mountain. I evacuated my children, and I only stayed behind to defend my weekend house, ' she said.

Many of the fires swept through fields still dotted with mines from the Bosnian War, which took place in the region between 1992 and 1995. The resort is situated on a former frontline.

Tourists said that they could hear loud explosions from the forest as the mines were set off by the blaze

Such fires have been burning in several areas of Bosnia for weeks and the fight to extinguish them has been complicated by the country's hilly terrain, strong winds, little rainfall and a 40-Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) heat wave which is forcing people to seek medical assistance.

In the Bosnian capital, Dr. Tigran Elezovic of Sarajevo's emergency service said Tuesday that since the start of the summer, around 600 people have sought daily help for heat-related health problems.

"We are constantly instructing people to limit their outdoor activity in the period between 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and to finish whatever they need to do outdoors before 10 in the morning," he said.

Elsewhere in the Balkans, authorities have issued heat warnings, instructing people to stay indoors and drink lots to avoid dehydration.

In neighboring Serbia, authorities have warned people to remain inside and protect themselves from high temperatures, while the Croatian Health Ministry warned Tuesday that "only one careless moment is enough for the heat to become fatal," and urged people to shower often and drink lots of water.

Croatia has also suffered a number of wildfires throughout the summer, and the coastal municipality of Split has urged the government to postpone the start of the school year because of the heat.

In Serbia, Belgrade city authorities say they will park water tanks on city squares Wednesday, and doctors have reiterated warnings about the extreme heat.

Long-Term Separations As An Alternative To Divorce - Kiefit.com

Married couples who undergo long-term separations generally appear to be those who can't afford to divorce, a new nationwide study suggests. Researchers found that about 80 percent of all respondents who went through a marital separation ultimately divorced, most within three years. About five percent attempted to reconcile. But, 15 percent of separations didn't lead to divorce or reconciliation within 10 years. Couples in these long-term separations tended to be racial and ethnic minorities, have low family income and education, and have young children...

Superstition thrives in modern Singapore

Whenever Christina Tang is overseas and returns to her hotel room, she always knocks on the door before entering even if she is the only occupant.

The 25-year-old Singaporean marketing executive said knocking on the door is meant to seek permission from the "good brothers" -- spirits that might have taken over her room while she was away -- for her to stay over for the night.

"It's just like visiting a friend. You would definitely not barge in without the courtesy of a doorbell or a knock on the door, right? To me, it's just respect."

Singapore might be one of Asia's wealthiest and most well-educated societies, but quirky superstitions are part of daily life in the predominantly ethnic Chinese city-state.

Superstition comes to the fore during the month-long Hungry Ghost Festival, which began on Friday.

Chinese superstition holds that the gates of hell are opened for spirits to wander across the mortal realm before they return to the underworld.

During the month, property sales fall because it is considered inauspicious to make major purchases, and people refrain from staying out too late to avoid otherworldly encounters.

Noisy streetside shows called "getai" featuring professional singers are staged to entertain the visiting spirits -- but don't sit on the empty front seats because they're reserved for the invisible guests.

Traffic jams are typically caused not only by crumpled cars obstructing traffic but also by drivers slowing down to take note of the license plate numbers so that they can bet on them in the hugely popular four-digit lottery.

Having bird droppings land on your head is also seen as a good omen for gamblers because it's so rare for one to be hit in the concrete jungle.

A tree in a western suburb has attracted a following due to the likeness of a monkey on its bark, which believers say resembles that of a deity from Chinese mythology.

The "Monkey Tree" drew so much attention at one point that authorities had to explain to a local newspaper that the visage was a "natural" response by the tree to various "minor accidents over the years".

Even national icons are not immune to superstition.

Operators of the bayside Singapore Flyer, said to be the world's largest ferris wheel, reversed its spinning direction in 2008 so that it revolves towards the financial district and not the sea.

Masters of feng shui -- the ancient practice of balancing energies in any given space to attract good fortune -- advised them that the wheel's revolution should bring fortune into Singapore, not suck the good luck away.

Superstitious practices are often mistakenly associated with religion in Singapore, where many Chinese are followers of Buddhism or Taoism, said Chung Kwang Tong, a high priest with the local Taoist Federation.

"The religion itself does not have such practices," he told AFP. "A lot of them will just try because to them there is no harm in trying."

Ang Swee Hoon, a sociologist at the National University of Singapore, said even well-educated people resort to superstitious practices because of the highly competitive environment in Singapore.

"Hence, to get a leg up, Singaporeans engage in more activities that will give them an advantage. Superstitious behaviours seemingly offer that," Ang said. "So, instead of superstitions being irrational, it may be perceived as rational."

Ang said the opening of two massive casinos in 2010 further boosted superstitious practices in gambling-mad Singapore, which already has horse racing, sweepstakes, numbers games and sports betting operations.

Red underwear is seen as sexy in many countries, but to Singaporean gamblers, it's just another way of attracting good fortune because red is regarded as a lucky colour among Chinese.

Gamblers and financial traders often wear red undergaments before placing a bet or playing the stock market.

"Gamblers are generally a more superstitious lot," Ang said.

US eases sanctions to allow Iran quake aid

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Obama administration is temporarily easing sanctions on Iran to allow Americans to donate money to U.S.-based charities providing direct assistance to victims of deadly twin earthquakes that hit the country earlier this month.

The Treasury Department announced Tuesday that it would authorize aid groups to transfer up to $300,000 to Iran for earthquake relief over the next 45 days, provided the money is routed through a foreign bank and does not go to or benefit any individual or entity that is subject to existing U.S. sanctions.

American citizens were already able to make individual donations of food and medicine to Iranian earthquake victims without violating U.S. sanctions.

More than 300 people were killed and 3,000 injured in the quakes that hit northwest Iran on August 11.

WATCH: Todd Akin Says Abortion Is More 'Un ... - Business Insider

Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin is at the center of a political firestorm today over remarks he made Sunday suggesting that victims of what he called "legitimate rape" are less likely to get pregnant.

It wasn't Akin's first controversial statement regarding abortion, though.?

On January 22, 2008, Todd Akin addressed the House of Representatives with a long speech condemning abortion.

In his speech, he drew comparisons between abortion and slavery ? even going so far as to suggest that abortion is fundamentally more "un-American" than slavery.

"We have one of the most polarizing issues that has confronted our nation since the days of slavery. And yet,?just as slavery is fundamentally un-American, so even moreso, anything that violates the most fundamental right -- the right to life -- is contrary to everything that Americans have stood for and fought for."?

Akin goes on to say that "we have terrorists in our own culture called 'abortionists,'" and that abortionists are "heartless doctors."

New research from George Mason University shows curcumin stops virus cells

Fairfax, Va.--The popular spice turmeric packs more than just flavor it shows promise in fighting devastating viruses, Mason researchers recently discovered.

Curcumin, found in turmeric, stopped the potentially deadly Rift Valley Fever virus from multiplying in infected cells, says Aarthi Narayanan, lead investigator on the new study and a research assistant professor with Mason's National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases.

Mosquito-borne Rift Valley Fever virus (RVF) is an acute, fever-causing virus that affects domestic animals such as cattle, sheep and goats, as well as humans. The research appears this month in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

"Growing up in India, I was given turmeric all the time," says Narayanan, who has spent the past 18 months working on the project. "Every time my son has a throat infection, I give (turmeric) to him."

There's more work to do before curcumin-based pharmaceuticals become commonplace, Narayanan emphasizes. She plans to test 10 different versions of curcumin to determine which one works the best. She also intends to apply the research to other viruses, including HIV.

Narayanan has long wanted to explore the infection-fighting properties of turmeric, in particular its key component, curcumin. "It is often not taken seriously because it's a spice," she says.

But science is transforming the spice from folk medicine to one that could help a patient's body fight off a virus because it can prevent the virus from taking over healthy cells. These "broad-spectrum inhibitors" work by defeating a wide array of viruses.

"Curcumin is, by its very nature, broad spectrum," Narayanan says. "However, in the published article, we provide evidence that curcumin may interfere with how the virus manipulates the human cell to stop the cell from responding to the infection."

Kylene Kehn-Hall, a co-investigator on the study, adds, "We are very excited about this work, as curcumin not only dramatically inhibits RVFV replication in cell culture but also demonstrates efficacy against RVFV in a mouse model."

Narayanan and her colleagues study the connection between a virus and how it impacts the host human or animal. Symptoms clue in the researcher about the body's inner workings. Rift Valley Fever and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis kick off with flu-like symptoms.

Symptoms can make it challenging for someone to recover. The body usually starts with an exaggerated inflammatory response because it doesn't know where to start to rid itself of the virus, she says.

"Many times, the body goes above and beyond what is necessary," Narayanan says. "And that's not good because it's going to influence a bunch of cells around the infection, which haven't seen the bug. That's one way by which disease spreads through your body. And so it is very important to control the host because a lot of times the way the host responds contributes to the disease."

Controlling the symptoms means more than simply making the patients feels better. "You're giving the antiviral a chance to work. Now an antiviral can go in and stop the bug. You're no longer trying to keep the host alive and battling the bug at the same time."

Once Narayanan knows how the body responds to a virus, it's time to go after the bug itself. She's applying this know-how to a family of viruses called Bunyaviruses, which feature Rift Valley fever, and such alphaviruses as Venezuelan equine encephalitis and retroviruses, which notably include HIV.

She delves into uncovering why and how each virus affects the patient. "Why are some cell types are more susceptible to one type of infection than another?" HIV goes after the immune system. Bunyaviruses will infect a wide range of cells but do maximum damage to the liver. "What is it about the liver that makes it a sitting duck compared to something like the brain?" Narayanan asks.

Ultimately, curcumin could be part of drug therapies that help defeat these viruses, Narayanan says. "I know this works. I know it works because I have seen it happen in real life," Narayanan says. "I eat it every day. I make it a point of adding it to vegetables I cook. Every single day."

These include do it yourself interest negotiations, financial hardship ...

Anytime you have furnished the essential proof desired you can anticipate that you will obtain feedback within about twenty four weeks. But it is not always that you can rely on your sales and profits as your source of funds. Specifically, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) oversees the buying and selling of United States Treasury securities. When you consider the impact of fees, some people might actually be paying over 60% or more in a given year on money they have borrowed. In most cases the fee to transfer a balance will be anywhere between 3% and 5% of the amount of the overall transfer. As I have told you above, the One World Order conspirators have no regard for human life and for human suffering.

The corporate and personal income tax gave the Federal Reserve System and the federal government control over the activities that would be encouraged and the activities that would be discouraged or made to collapse altogether through subsidized or penalized tax treatment of individuals and night clubs , or worse, the uprooting altogether of facilities that manufactured liquor as was done through the enactment of the Amendment of Prohibition

Usually limited to 2 points, it prevents the loan from increasing dramatically due to either a low teaser rate or a dramatic change in interest rates. Youre starting to get frustrated with the amount of money you are spending in interest and finance charges so you do a little research. For those specific who have no savings, yet may have other assets convertible to cash, again, the advice is to do whatever is necessary to get out from under the tyrants foot.

There is no need to contact a relationship or an account manager. Through these combined legal maneuvers, together with the much earlier legal acts of incorporation of federal and state book stores the several state legislatures and Congress, changed the entire structure of liberty and social conduct. All these privately owned banking institutions are in spa for a couple of reasons. How Good Is your credit? When I am asked how one of my clients can reduce their credit card interest rate, one of the first questions Im going to ask is How good is your credit? The better your credit score is, the more options you have to reduce your credit card interest rate.

I have even noticed a couple people on one website who have very nice credit ratings and they are borrowing from other lenders at a low interest rate like 7% with the purpose of lending money to others at a higher rate of interest.

This can very easily be remedied by not allowing unfettered access. Lets say you are something like a fair majority of American consumers and your credit isnt all that fabulous . While it may be possible to still find a six month or one year 0% promotional offer, it may come with an upfront balance transfer fee that contravenes any savings. It is often designed as a long term debt facility that many consider as a good fit for having additional capital for investment or expansion purposes. You are consistently thinking about bankruptcy but you wish there was one more thing you could try. The fact that you can look up the US Federal Reserve in the phone book and you wont find it under any government listings at all. They are however, quite a bit more powerful.

because they did it

Is there anything you can do to help? They will then put you on hold. With the Establishment of these powerful national funding companies a new international control system was established with the name of IMF (International Monetary Fund) that oversees all international trade activities in the world.

As the union of states was bound to become a domesticated animal by forcing it to wage wars and through the harvesting actions of the IRS, so were all other western countries harnessed through their individual national cash advance providers and their artificial, forced engagement in world wars I and II and all wars surrounding these. Do your research and make sure you are using a reputable source. I ask. For many years now, Foreign Institutional Investors have exhibited a high degree of interest in investing in Indian Government Debt.

Global activists gear up for Pussy Riot rallies

(AP) ? The global campaign to free Pussy Riot is gaining speed: Supporters of the punk provocateur band mobilize this week in at least a dozen cities worldwide to hold simultaneous demonstrations an hour before a Russian court rules on whether its members will be sent to prison.

Friday's rallies will ride a wave of support for the three women who have been in jail for more than five months because of an anti-Putin prank in Moscow's main cathedral. Calls for them to be freed have come from a long list of celebrities such as Madonna and Bjork. Protests have been held in a number of Western capitals, including Berlin, where last week about 400 people joined Canadian electro-pop performance artist Peaches to support the band.

In one of the most extravagant displays, Reykjavik Mayor Jon Gnarr rode through the streets of the Icelandic capital in a Gay Pride parade this weekend dressed like a band member ? wearing a bright pink dress and matching balaclava ? while lip-synching to one of Pussy Riot's songs.

Amnesty International has called the women prisoners of conscience and begun collecting signatures by text message for a petition to be sent to the Russian government, while the U.S. State Department has repeatedly expressed its concern.

Although the band members and their lawyers are convinced that the verdict depends entirely on the will of President Vladimir Putin, and prosecutors have asked for a three-year sentence, activists hope their pressure will ease punishment or even free the women.

Putin has said the women should not be judged too harshly, but he risks appearing weak if they walk free.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich were little known before their brief impromptu performance in Christ the Savior Cathedral in February. Dancing and high-kicking, they shouted the words of a "punk prayer" asking the Virgin Mary to deliver Russia from Putin, who was set to win a third term in a March presidential election.

They were arrested on charges of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years. Since then, they have been vilified by the state media ? while winning over hearts abroad.

Madonna donned a balaclava during a concert in Moscow last week and had "Pussy Riot" written on her bare back. Yoko Ono sent a personal message to Samutsevich, saying that "the power of your every word is now growing in us."

A group of leading British musicians, including Pete Townshend of the Who and members of the Pet Shop Boys, published a letter in the Times of London ahead of Putin's visit during the Olympics to urge him to give the Pussy Riot members a fair hearing.

On Friday, activists in more than a dozen cities, from Moscow to Toronto, are expected to take to the streets at 2 p.m. Moscow time (1000 GMT), an hour before the judge is to issue the verdict. The protests are being coordinated by the defense lawyers.

Venues vary from the square outside the ornate Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona to the yard outside the Russian Embassy in London.

In Paris, the protest will be held on Stravinsky Square and led by 29-year-old Alexey Prokopyev from Russie-Libert?s, a Paris-based organization formed in December to bring together Russians studying or working in France.

"Most people go to these rallies in Paris because we cannot be in Russia at the moment for various reasons ? because of jobs, classes," said Prokopyev, who was born in the Soviet Union and has spent most of the past 17 years in France. "We all wish we were in Moscow now, but since we can't we do it in Paris."

Russie-Libert?s also is helping to organize rallies in Marseille, Nice, Lyons and Montpellier.

Wearing balaclavas, activists protested earlier this month on the iconic Alexander III bridge, named after the Russian czar who was France's ally in the 1890s.

Prokopyev said that he and his peers "want Russia to be a normal country" and be able to elect a president "who doesn't make the country where we were born a laughingstock."

In New York, Friday's protest will take place outside the Russian Consulate and later on Times Square.

"It's absurd that this case is being treated as criminal, while in any other civilized country that would be merely an administrative offense," said Xenia Grubstein, a 31-year-old journalist helping to organize the New York protest.

She said the hope was that the louder people speak out against the Pussy Riot case, the greater the chance that the verdict will be fair.

A protest is also planned in Washington, where last month punk rockers and arts activists rallied outside the Russian Embassy.

The U.S. State Department has expressed concern about what it called the "politically motivated prosecution of the Russian opposition and pressure on those who express dissenting views."

In France, Culture Minister Aurelie Filippetti last week issued a statement expressing concern that artistic freedom was on trial.

A German cross-party group of lawmakers sent a letter to the Russian ambassador calling the five months the band members have spent in custody and the possible prison terms "draconian and disproportionate" punishment.

"In a secular and pluralistic state, peaceful artistic activities ? even if they may be seen as a provocation ? should not lead to accusations of a serious crime and long prison sentences," the lawmakers said in the letter, which more than 100 members of parliament signed.

The international press has been full of critical reports from the trial. One of Germany's most influential magazines, Der Spiegel, featured the band on its cover: a picture of Tolokonnikova behind bars and the headline "Putin's Russia."
